Guildhall Island

7th May 2026

Guildhall Island is one of Windsor’s most historic and recognisable areas — but it also faces some very modern challenges.

This important part of the town contains some of Windsor’s prettiest and most photographed streets, including Church Street, Market Street, and Charlotte Street — officially the shortest street in Britain. The area is home to the Guildhall and Museum, and to significant retail and hospitality businesses. It is popular with both residents and visitors, and contains a large number of listed buildings which contribute greatly to Windsor’s historic character.

However, recent concerns raised by local stakeholders have included ongoing waste management problems and recurring rat infestation issues affecting parts of the area. In response, a collaborative group has come together involving local businesses, the council, our MP, WESOC, and other community organisations, including the Friends. An initial meeting was positive.

The Friends will continue to support this important and much-needed activity to help protect and improve one of Windsor’s most historic quarters.
