Did you know a piece of WWII history lies in our Museum in Windsor Guildhall? On 17th February 1941, a Nazi Dornier 17z bomber—nicknamed the “Flying Pencil”—crashed near Oakley Court after being attacked by a night fighter. Despite the report that “The flames lit up the night sky”, two of the crew survived. A piece of the wreckage, an oxygen valve, is now preserved in the Museum as a reminder of that unforgettable event.

A grandson of one of the crew visited our Museum recently and was overjoyed to see it and hear more about the incident from our Volunteers.
